Who We Are

  • Life transitions, teens, college students, family and couples, LGBTQ+, queer, trans affirming.

    Kayla (she/her), LMFT

As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of California, I provide virtual psychotherapy services to individuals, couples, and adult relational systems across the state of California via Telehealth.

My areas of specialization include providing services to women across the lifespan and the LGBTQ+ community.

I believe that life's challenges do not need to be experienced alone and that there is immense value in having someone by your side to support you. It is an honor and a privilege to be able to hold space with clients and be present with them as hey experience the hard and heavy of life. I prioritize the therapeutic relationship and strive to create a safe, collaborative environment for clients to engage in their healing, growth, and change processes.

My approach is attachment oriented, trauma-informed, multi-culturally aware, and strengths-based. Tenants of compassionate care, empathy, warmth, and gentleness are fundamental to my work.

I partner with clients to explore the personal, relational, historical, and societal contexts that shape their internal and external experiences. My work supports clients navigating a broad range of concerns, including (but not limited to) gender, sexuality, and identity exploration; trauma processing and healing; relationship challenges (family-of-origin and intimate partner); topics related to fertility, pregnancy, and postpartum; and major life transitions.

Throughout the therapeutic process, I consistently prioritize and emphasize client strengths, authenticity, inner-voice, agency, and autonomy in order to help them achieve empowerment and self-actualization. All of my sessions are client centered and adjusted to meet the needs of the individual or relationship.

Whether you are looking to process present day matters or historical issues, whether you are in need of action oriented change filled with tools and solutions, I am flexible in my approach to honor what you are needing to best support your mental and emotional health needs.

  • Telehealth counseling across Oregon

    Sarah (she/her), Intake Coordinator

With a background in Public Health and years of experience in administrative support, Sarah is dedicated to ensuring the practice runs smoothly so that clients can focus on their healing. She understands that the logistics of finding a therapist and getting settled in with a new therapy practice can often feel overwhelming during difficult times. Having navigated her own therapy journey for many years, she aims to bring empathy, clarity, and a welcoming presence to every interaction, making the client experience as pleasant and seamless as possible.

Outside of the office, Sarah is focused on her growing family. She is a proud mom to a 3 year old and one on the way. When she isn’t chasing after her toddler, she recharges in nature through her love of hiking, camping and backpacking.

Emily (she/her), LMFT / Practice Owner

Common Thread was founded by a lifelong Oregonian who has spent more than two decades working in mental health — in community settings, private practice, group practice leadership, and as a supervisor supporting clinicians on their path to licensure. Along the way, she’s witnessed both the deep healing this work can offer and the ways that our societal systems too often strain or fail the very people doing the caring.

As a member of the queer community, she brings a lived understanding of what it means to move through the world seeking safety, belonging, and authenticity. That perspective shapes everything about Common Thread — from how care is offered, to how clinicians are treated, to the kind of culture the practice is committed to building.

Common Thread grew from a simple, hard-earned belief: when clinicians are genuinely supported, fairly compensated, and able to practice in alignment with their values, they can offer the kind of present, thoughtful, high-quality care that clients deserve.

The practice is rooted in integrity, fairness, and congruence, with a deep commitment to increasing access to meaningful mental health care. Above all, Common Thread aims to be a place where both clients and clinicians feel respected, understood, and held as whole people.

This is her way of weaving experience, identity, and values into something tangible — a practice with intent to care for real people and real clinicians.
